As we are all aware, there are many different methods used by RV campgrounds for making reservations. What's your favorite or the best you've seen? Especially for the longer reservations.

I've only stayed at 6 or so military campgrounds so I don't have experience with the private or chain campgounds but I feel there has to be better than what I've seen on the various bases.

For example, here at Fort Meade, MD you can expect to move sites several, if not 4 or 5 times, during a 30 day stay. If you're able to schedule months in advance you might get one site for the duration. And thats only if you pay the balance at the time of reservation. By contrast, the Naval Recreation Center - Short Stay, in South Carolina has a pick your own site policy. That blew my mind. You make a reservation and when you check in you drive out an pick the site you want. How they manage open spaces is beyond me.

So, what reservation system do you like?

KOA has a pretty nice one... get to see a representative picture of the site before you book it. Sometimes you have to call in if the site says none available, but generally they get the job done quickly and easily. Don't care much for the ones that are just an email form online and they'll get back to you.

X2 on KOA reservations. We print out the confirmations & file them in the winter, then pull them out of the file as we get to the RV park.

Reservation systems are all different. Most allow you to choose your site some don't. In general some price sites differently depending on size and location. Others all sites are the same price. Some charge extra for amenities or extra people.
Some allow reservations to be made on line. While others require a phone call.
Some require full payment at time of reservation. Others will take a deposit. Some deposits are refundable, some will keep a portion of your deposit if you cancel.
In the end the rules will vary but they all manage to have a site waiting for me when I arrive.
It really doesn't matter to me what the rules are. As long as they have a decent site that I can fit in I'm happy.

I have used reserveamerica.com and it seems to be pretty good. You just put where you want to go in the search bar and it pulls up all the camgrounds in that area.

When planning a trip we use RVTripWizard.com (operated by RV Park Reviews.com) It allows you to put in your start and end locations. Then it routes you supposedly RV safe routes, showing campgrounds along the way. After selecting a campground within our travel miles I always review the campground and google earth it as well before deciding to make reservations. Making reservations are as mentioned in earlier posts depending on the campground.
