My furnace failed to light this morning--did some troubleshooting and discovered a dirt dauber
had built a home in the exhaust. Cleaned it out with the help of a small 1 gal. shop vac.--now the only way it will light is if I restrict the exhaust with a small amount of steel wool and still won't put out enough heat to heat the camper--air is just barely warm enough to not be cool---even the exhaust is not as hot as expected. Just warm-- All you HVAC guys helppppppppppp!!!!!!!! :?

BTW the furnace worked yesterday and I feel like the dauber nest was there??????

Guy next to me had that early this season. He turned off the gas to clean his furnace and when he turned it back on the regulator hung and only let a small amount of propane through. It sounded normal though. He replaced the regulator and it was fine. Assuming that may be the case here, try turning off your gas and then turn it back on slowly and see if that works.

BCM---already tried that---will switch to regulator on other side tomorrow to see if that may be the problem.
I suspect maybe the burner is partially plugged or maybe the orifice may have a small speck of trash in it.
Have to remove the entire furnace to get to either of these items. BTW --the stove top lights perfect.

Bill,
Have you tried blowing it out with compressed air to try and clear burner?

The manner that this furnace is mounted makes it impossible to do much in the way of
doing anything other than cleaning the exhaust. Your 399 is probably mounted the same.
May need to remove the furnace to go any further with troubleshooting. I think the burner
is partially plugged or maybe the orifice--also the regulator may be slightly low so today I
will switch to the other side with a different regulator to see if that makes a difference.

Update:switched to 2nd regulator with no change--Removed the furnace (big job) and disassembled
all the way down to the main burner(another big job) and found both problems that I suspected--partially plugged
burner and orifice--Lady bugs were the culprits--at least in the burner--the orifice had what looked like
small spiders--of course all were dead and had been there for quite a while--
the rest of the story---in fall of 2008 just a month or so after purchasing the camper we were camped at
Enid Lake Ms. COE CG and we were swarmed by lady bugs--they filled every hole they could find--
we even moved to another spot to get away from them--the furnace has never been very good but I thought that was just the way it was. All these years it was just barely heating enough to stay lit. The orifice was the straw
that broke the camels back--so I have it all cleaned up and have a new burner on the way--may be I can get it all back together and have a furnace that will perform as designed.

Latest up-date:
received the new burner and a couple of gaskets yesterday and re-assembled the
furnace--didn't have any spare parts left-- ;-) re-installed in the storage compartment
and it lit 1st try--performs much better than ever--been mediocre at best since the lady bugs
in 2008--

Great you got it going, now did you install a screen over the furnace exhaust to keep them little buggers out of there. Every October the lady bugs come out by the millions at our seasonal site in Wisconsin.
