Needing help here.... I had my 100lb propane tank filled at Loves here in TX last week. Turned the furnace on to knock the chill down. Noticed a very strong odd propane odor coming from the floor furnace vents. A few minutes later the propane alarm started going off inside as levels were high inside the camper. Shut it down, opened windows to air out the camper. While furnace was running noticed black smoke coming from furnace exhaust and now has black smoke stains on side of camper looks like an 18 wheel stack.

Do I have some odd or strange type of propane or is something wrong with my furnace?

Please help and all help is appreciated

Thank You
Scott

Careful, I say need to get it inspected. Heat exchanger may be leaking, a no no. :-o

Maybe it just needs air flow vane adjustment, too rich, not getting enough air, which prob cause the smoke n soot.

Try the stove top burners --see if same results or the water heater--
and be careful---like Cothamm says may be choked up somewhere.

Was this an existing connection? Sounds like your regulator developed a problem if so.

Possibly the propane tank was overfilled allowing liquid propane to enter the system.

No I disconnected it for summer and just made the new connection last week. Had a mobile rv tech take a look last night. He stated that furnace seems to be burning as well as gas side of hot water tank and stove inside, however the regulator is making a hissing and ticking sound. His thoughts are regulator has given up the ghost and needs changing. Just purchased one today and will replace tonight when I leave work. I will let everyone know if this fixes this issue.

Thanks so much

Is this an easy task. I changed the regulator but no luck. Same issue.

Scott, I have never had issues with any heaters in any of the 3 RVs we owned. So I never looked at them, nor serviced. Hence, I am not well versed of any.

I would let a tech who works on them, let him service it.

Sorry, hope you get attention, get it taken care of.

Take a flashlight and look in the exhaust for any obstruction like spider web or dirt dauber nest--
you may need to have a HVAC tech look into the problem--I recently pulled my furnace out
and had to completely disassemble it to clean out the burner and orifice --actually purchased a new
burner-- but my problem was a little different.

I reached out to the mobile tech that I had come and look at it Wednesday and stated that the regulator did not fix the issue and het stated the next step is to remove the unit and do thorough cleaning. Perhaps the inlet is clogged up with carbon as there was some at the exhaust port. He wanted another 225.00 for this procedure after he charged me 200.00 for a diagnosis of the regulator that did not fix my issue. I think I will remove this myself and attempt to de carbon it myself. It doesn't look like to difficult of a task. With that said I may just plan on replacing the burner while I am in there.

A 2016 should still be under warranty. A brand new Attwood RV furnace is only $400.

my furnace is Atwood Mod. # 8535-IV-DCLPLD
however the manual I got with my trailer had a different mod # and I ended up ordering
the wrong burner that I had to send back then re-order--be sure to check the # on the furnace before
ordering--there are lots of screws involved with disassembly--I suggest taking pictures as you proceed through the process for help with reassembly-- If you need further assistance feel free to ask.
Notice that the gasket has a Dometic part number but it is exactly like the Atwood.
also be sure to inspect and clean the orifice.

I wish it were. I purchased it in May of 2015. The coach had just landed on Lazydays lot the day before therefore putting my warranty out in May of 2017
