well that makes sense. Math was never my best subject. I hate they have to push these rigs right to the edge of what is safe to save a few dollars on axles and tires. Mine will be on E rated tires before the summer starts just to be safe. I wonder what the cost savings of the 5000# axle was over a 6K??

I got mine too but I couldn't tell what had changed. It is the axle rating that is different huh. Looks like we lose about 300# of cargo carrying capacity? Although not a lot it is not what I was sold. I am going to send in an email asking about this fact.

Chris

yes and no....if you notice, the GVWR did not go down. Simply the weight rating for each axles was corrected to reflect the axle rating for the axles they use. So basically the labels were incorrectly reflecting the axle rating but the GVWR was correct. So technically your not losing anything because in order to exceed the axle rating you will have exceeded your GVWR as well.....remember you have to subtract your hitch tongue/pin weight from your actual GVW to which is typically 15-20%. On my trailer my max GVWR is 10,995 lbs. Subtract 20% of that for the pin weight (2199 lbs) and that would give me a max weight of 8,796 lbs on the axles which is under the revised weight rating of 10,160 (5080 per axle). Even at 15% tongue/pin weight (1650 lbs) at the max GVWR it would give you approximately 9345 lbs over the axles which is around 91% of the axles rated load capacity. So to exceed the axle rating, you will exceed the GVWR in the process.....

Thanks for the info! I tried the gov site and it just listed automobiles not trailers and said my vin wasn't good. I'm thinking it is more of an axel rating recall which our gross wt rating doesn't exceed. Just one more thing to have to worry about...

Got a call from HR today. Guy was very nice and said he was taking a lot of calls from Angry people. He said just what Heavy said that it was just a number error and no weight ratings changed or loss of cargo capacity.

Starts me wondering, the sticker on my 349RLS says 13,975 GVR, but the paper work that comes with the trailer says it has 6000lb axles times 2 my math says that equals 12,000lbs? What am I missing?

You're missing nothing...if there was a bad accident...where would an insurance company or an "ambulance chaser" attorney go with it? I would want some clarification from HR. I can see it on TV now..."If you've been involved in an accident with a mega camper and suffered damage...call Duey, Chetham and Howe @ 1-800- GET-RICH...we'll get you the justice you deserve"! It could become an issue.

Some of the weight is carried by the truck...

About 2000# pin weight would cover the extra 1975# that you didn't account for.

So based on the recall stickers that came in the mail for my TT, my GAWR went down 120lbs per axle but my cargo capacity went from 835lbs to 1182lbs (both weights without water), yet they want me to cover the only sticker that states the UVW on the TT.. Hmmmmm

I received a weight rating recall today but it has different years than the one Burgie posted. Mine is for 2012-2014 Mesa Ridge, Roamer, and Light Fifth Wheels and Mesa Ridge, Roamer and Light Travel Trailers manufactured March 23, 2011 through March 20, 2014. It states "The information downloaded into the production system to calculate the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) and Occupant and Cargo Carrying Capacity (CCC) was incorrect and generated incorrect information on the labels placed on the units. This error may allow overloading of the trailer, exceeding the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. Overloading of tires may lead to tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash."

It includes 3 new labels to place on my travel trailer. I'm really not sure how much my ratings were off compared to these new stickers since my camper is still in storage until the 29th but hopefully it's not off too much!

The letter says it is recall campaign #16V115 and gives a customer service number for Highland Ridge of 260-768-7771.

Unless I received those stickers by "signature required" or "confirmed delivery", I would not install them. Make a mental note and adjust loads accordingly but leave the liability with HR in the event of an accident. They would then need to prove you were notified and that you ignored it. Insurance companies will disect a major accident like we did worms in high school. Based on above posts, it doesn't seem there is much difference anyway. Has anyone had to make major loadout differences as a result of this downgrade?

I received my stickers. Then received one of the stickers again since they screwed up on the tire air pressure on the first one that stated max tire psi of 102. Should of inflated to that pressure then I would be rich.

We have been wrestling with our dealer since before May, our letters for safety chains, axles, 4 tires plus spare have to be replaced on our 31RGR. Have called dealer every week for the last four weeks. They say the chains came in, didn't know about the axles and tires as yet. We called Highland, they gave us the tracking number and said a pkg was delivered 6/7/16, ohhh so turns out the dealer does at least have the tires, but say no axles yet. We called Lippert, axles supposed to be ordered directly from them, they have no record of anything for our VIN, so now we bounce back to the dealer to ask... Did you even order the axles yet? We picked up the toy hauler in Sept 2015, still sitting in it's winter resting place totally unused. At this rate June and probably most of July will be gone before we get to actually lay our heads in there. Got the toy hauler to use the ramp as entrance for husband in wheelchair, major stroke in March 2015 left his entire left side weak or worse. His memory, speech, and 'smarts' seem completely unaffected thankfully. So he has been on the phone with Dealer, Highland, & Lipperts looking for answers. We had already switched contents from old camper to this one last fall, so it is probably overloaded as we speak! yikes. Hoping to get this cleared up and an appointment set soon. Dealer is now going to call Highland and ask about an order number for the axles, they have all other components in the recall delivered.

Sure glad we caught this thread. A major error in a weight sensitive industry. Our consideration of a 31 RGR continues and we will definitely check the recall status of any units we come upon. I am still interested in any comments from owners regarding their experience with this model.
