Just read that the power arm-less Care Free by Colorado Latitude GX awnings on the 3X product are being recalled. I guess there is specific build date that meets the criteria. I believe it as August 2014 - mid November 2014. Those 3X owners with this newer arm-less awning might want to call their dealers. Just wanted to share.

Enjoying the Journey...

I take it the armless are like a lot of motorhomes we see with a folding rafter system that extends. Those don't work in the wind either. I really like the Pioneer arms with the double hinge eliminated and compliance provided with a spring loaded double plate. Really holds up in the wind.

TT, I'm assuming those 3X has those armless motor-home awnings that you speak of. I heard that they auto rewind in the wind. Not an owner of one nor am I a fan.

Enjoying the Journey...

Here's the recall as posted in the RV Daily Report:
WASHINGTON — Highland Ridge RV is recalling certain model year 3x recreational trailers manufactured Aug. 5 to Nov. 17, equipped with recalling Latitude Awnings styles GX and G manufactured April 10 to Nov. 4, manufactured by Carefree of Colorado.
The affected awnings may have screws that attach the lateral arm brackets to the mounting brackets that were not manufactured to specification.

Our 3X427BHS had one of the defective ones and came apart either the first or second time we used it. Carefree of Colorado was great about notifying us of the recall...they sent us a certified letter about it and we had it repaired. It isn't closing up now as smoothly as it was before...the ends pucker and wrinkle, pulling on the middle section, so we are going to have it checked out.

Good Luck any one that has this product. Our awning lasted 72 hours before it broke. Carefree sent replacement parts and a dealer "fixed" the broken mounting plates, but the following problems started immediately after that "fix". We have not been able to use the awning since that date, awning will not extend at temperatures below 65 deg., awning fabric is separating from the plastic wrap. Awful grinding or gauling noise when retracting. All told we have had the 5er for 8 months and have only been able to use it 2 days.

We had the recall done and then two months later the screws holding it to the wall came loose repairman fixed it with rivnuts that did not hold because the aluminum inside the wall gave way. Why would someone use a lag bolt on 1/16th inch aluminum. There is NO wood blocking at all in the wall. I think the engineering of it is not up to safety for it owners.

We have the Carefree awnings on our 3x...one awning works...the other one goes out one foot at a time. We took it in to have the front end cap (was separating from the roof) fixed, and told them about the awning. Turns out, the circuit board is faulty, and has to be replaced. So, tomorrow we're packing up and taking her back in for the repair.
