 Post subject: Airbags for bouncy ride?

Greetings All
I know the airbag issue has been almost beat to death, but my question is regarding the ride while towing, not the need for ht adjust.
The wife complains about the ride being too bouncy and rough while towing. We have a new UT2910RL, towing with a 2017 Ram 1500 4x4, short bed, quad cab, 5.7l.
I am looking at the Airlift 1000 to insert between the coil springs to help dampen the rough ride while towing. I do use a WD hitch, and also have the sway control but not yet installed. The truck is nice and level with the wd hitch.
Does anyone use these airbags, and does it indeed dampen the towing ride?
Thanks in advance for any info, I do appreciate all the info shared here!

I have the Firestone bags with the Airlift Wireless One. They definitely smooth out the ride, especially if you're bottoming out.

I don't think I am bottoming out. Just the weight of the trailer on the very tail of the truck causing it bounce more.

I am a huge fan of airbags. Love mine!! BUT, if you are having a very bouncy ride with a tongue pull trailer you may not have enough tension on your weight distribution bars. Before you shell out the cash make an adjustment and take some measurements and see if you need more pressure.

Air bags are just another bouncy spring. Shocks damp bounce. If you are bottoming out, air bags will add spring support to stop the bottoming jolt. Air bags will reduce the rear deflection caused by higher tongue load. The bounce may be at a higher frequency and seem more comfortable.

Steve and Sherrie, I have the same setup, except 2016 Ram 1500 CC Laramie Longhorn with trailer tow package. Same trailer, OR 2910RL. Have the Equalizer WD hitch which helped the squatting but still squatted some when loaded. So we installed the Airlift 5000 system. A bit overkill but not much more than the Airlift 1000. We'll never need the capacity but it still helps. Glad we got them installed. Tows so much better. Was $675 installed for the Airlift 5000 kit.

Check into MOR/ryde suspension kits... I have it plus airbags.

Glad you got it figured out. I pulled a TT for almost 20 years and got very good diagnosing and setting up weight distributing hitches. You can make them ride very nice if the are set up correctly

Try to adjust the WD hitch first, it's free, but if that doesn't do it, you will need to go to heavier duty shocks. Most 1/2 trucks are not setup for serious towing. Air bags themselves are just another spring, and frankly I think they make the ride harsher.

The issue you describe is shock absorbers, pure and simple. The bad news is it will make the ride slightly harsher when empty, but so will air bags.
