In the next few weeks we'll begin our trek W/B back to Southern California. We'll be departing from south of Atlanta.
Was just wondering if anyone has recently traveled across I-10 through Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas and if there was any lingering damage/road work going on with the I-10 that we should be concerned about.
I know about the other possible routes (I-20 & I-40)....

Regarding I-10, road will be find overall.

However, when in Baton Rouge, try to get across the Mississippi River bridge earliest in day. If mid mornings, should be ok. Typically traffic heavy during rush hours.

More than likely you will hookup with I-12 from Slidell to Baton Rouge. Usually traffic heavy during rush hours. Or if an accident.

When on I-10 between Kerrville/San Antonio and El Paso, make sure have fuel! Long road, not many towns or fuel stops. Just monitor fuel level, distances, do stop to top off.

Good luck!

One note concerning I-20 through Shreveport which I agree is not very pleasant--
There is a 220 loop that takes you north around most of the bad road conditions
through the roughest part---for us folks that live east of Shreveport and plan to travel
west we have few options but to travel I-20--slow down and do take the 220 loop--

We traveled from Arizona on I-10 to Florida during mid-August this year. Now, we've just left the Dandridge TN rally, returning on I-40 to AZ, our winter snowbird park. I-40 has much better roadbed & less construction. Even Oklahoma seems better this year - surprise!
Have a good trip! Hope to see you in TX next spring.

We drive from Houston area to Florida a couple of times each year. There is about a 20 mile stretch of I-10 between Henderson and Lafayette, La. that causes major chucking. Traffic will most likely be your biggest obstacle. Baton Rouge, as noted, can be slow during rush hour times. Houston I think will be your biggest traffic obstacle, by Houston I mean from Baytown all the way west of Katy area, a distance of about 60 miles. If you time it right, before 5 am or after 8 am. or before 3 pm or after 6 pm you will be fine. Good thing about Katy area I-10 boast 26 lanes, of course you will only be interested in the 6 non toll westbound main lanes.

We just drove thru Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, NM and Arizona on I-10 a week ago. For the most part the road was good except for a short piece that was very bouncing and I can't remember what state.
Also wait until after 9:00am before you hit the bridge in Baton Rouge, it's long, narrow and only 2 lanes.
