I saw something similar. They were showing the states with no income taxes but also showed how the state made up the difference by charger high taxes on other things like, property, gas etc.
I like the idea where someone said "live in the state that has no income tax but live on a border of a close neighboring state where you can take advantage of the other states low taxes.
I don't car for the cold climates or hurricanes and tornado's in Texas and Florida, so I guess I should live in Nevada near the California and Arizona border.

Get your residence in the most beneficial state for you your rig has wheels and all you need is the plates and license. You don't have to stay long in most cases to declare resident status. Florida isn't bad in the winter with no hurricanes going around until May or June and Montana is nice in the heat of summer. Check counties for low population counts which usually results in lower vehicle rates where ever state you decide on.
We are in the same boat except our son lives in Texas and that is an added incentive for us.

Wow, I didn't think this would be such a hot topic. II think I'm going to list this up there with the what tires and tow vehicle to buy. Haha. With all of the information, we will have to put some consideration into our final decision fo sure. Being somewhat new to full timing and not sure what to do, I have to say it's nice getting all the responses with all the information. Thanks :cfire

N bugs here, we do have swarm of bees in the spring and they do attach people. No mosquitoes here because its so dry, no tornados or hurricanes. I live in the Phoenix area for over 45 years and probably only seen a snake 3 times, a fox 1 time.
Arizona has every possible climate when it comes to heat or cold, we can have the hottest day and the coldest day on the same day in the entire nation. Snow in the mountains (Flagstaff) 5-6 months of the year. The hottest months are July, August and September with July being moss on season with humidity and sand storms.
Not much traffic here in the summer, most people want to get out of town and go to the many lakes or their cabins up in the mountains. This leaves the locals that stay behind fast access to all the restaurants with no waiting, movie theaters no crowds. Disneyland and Ocean is a 6 or 7 hour drive. The largest ponderosa Tree forest in the world, 30,000 head of Elk up north.
No state income tax on social security. A typical $300K home property tax is about $2k a year. Gas stations everywhere, lots of malls.
Sorry I sound like a tourist ad.

There is no State taxes on Social Security but everyone pays federal. The federal tax is voluntary you choose the percentage.
My property taxes in Arizona is aprox $2000 a year for a house value of $300,000.
New car tags are expensive but go down 10% a year.

Tennessee is a good option that looks to get even better in a few years. "Centrally" located for the east. No State income tax. Interest and Dividends are taxed after a certain level, but there is a plan to reduce and eliminate that tax over the next few years. No personal property taxes (Vehicle registration is like $70-80 per year). The only negative is the sales tax - State is 7% and Local is 2.25%.

I could live there, I have family in Indiana and Alabama. It would be hard to leave the good weather in Arizona.
