Earle,

Make sure you request the 170... serial number. I can imagine there are many ‘old’ gearboxes out and about at dealerships, they will send you when you order a gearbox.

OK folks this is an update to my original post. Wife and I picked up the 5th wheel on Thursday 11/9. The service manager was good to his word about trying to get it back to us so we would be able to go on out planned trip to Georgia with our kids. He replace all 3 slide gearboxes with the new design (170 s/n series) and he adjusted the cables so that there is not nearly the tension that there was. He called the factory set tension "guitar string tight". Now that I see how he has them adjusted and see how they move much quieter, it makes perfect sense to have less tension.

If you look at the chain as it stretches across the top of the slide, there is maybe 3/8 of an inch of up and down play on the side that is not pulling.

The service manager says since he started adjusting them this way about a year and a half ago, he has not had any more gearbox failures. He has provided this feedback to OR but apparently they are not listening.

Looked at my gear box S/N and they start with 1609 so is this the same as the 15’s or like the 17’s or somewhere in between?

The 160 gearboxes are somewhere in between the 150s and 170s. The 160 gear boxes have been filled completely up with grease but it is the same construction as the 150 gearboxes , so I believe the 160s will last about 25% to 35% longer than the 150 gearbox, but not as long as the 170 gearbox.

Well I guess I need to get a 170 and carry it as a spare.
