So we took a camping trip to Maryland this past weekend. On our way home yesterday, I pull into a Pilot to get fuel and there is a guy pulling a keystone fusion 424 toy hauler with a Titan XD!!!! That trailer has a dry weight of 15865!!!! Needless to say I got on the road and away from him as quick as possible!! I don't understand why some people do stuff like this.

40% of all trailer/tow vehicles on the road are at maximum weight or they are over it because the dealer said you can pull it with that.
I actually use a 50lb weight scale and weight every spoon that went inside the trailer and truck. You would be surprise how much your stuff weighs.

We weigh truck by itself with full load of fuel and two extra propane canisters. Then we weigh the complete rig with 80 gallon of fresh water if we are going to dispersed site with no water points. We have managed to keep fifth wheel axles about 1000# below limit and trailer tires about 3000# below limit (Michelin). Rear axle of pickup is about 700# below maximum but front axle is very close to maximum.

When ever anyone is confused about towing a trailer safely, I always reference the website.
http://fifthwheelst.com/

It’s full of great information.

You're jettisoning the wrong gear.

Moving it from the fridge to the black tank should not have changed the weight. :Helo

And I if you are overweight, I bet you can find someone there to drink enough of your beer to lighten the load.
