I think you just over weight for that hitch and your really feeling the projected instant centre change. Also with a diesel the bump on downshift or exhaust brakeing will be more pronounced.

I use a reese dual cam with 1500 # bars. My tongue weight varies between 1380 and 1480 #'s depending on what I pack in the trunk of my 340 flr.
My rig is dead solid with absolutely no sway even when doing an emergency maneuver to avoid a collision when someone pulled out in front of me on the highway from a side road.
Check out Reese web page.

I agree, something else is going on! That truck is more than capable and you shouldn't be having those issues. Maybe change to a different hitch?

Just got back from a trip to big bend in west TX. Mountains and wind gusts in the 40's. We use an equalizer hitch and it tamed the beast. Have found the equalizer is the easiest hitch to use and no adjustments are needed (once installed correctly). Our MR340flr is new and this was first trip in really adverse conditions. The bottom alum panel on the starboard side of the front slide pealed back while we were driving. Fixed it by securing the bottom with zip ties. But we were going 60 and add 40 mph winds. The beast pulled great. Sure glad we had a Ram 2500 CTD. When wind was on the nose, the MPG sure went to heck.

Change all tires to 8 or 10 ply. I know several owners with the same problem was solved by changing the tires.
