We got a Light 318.

That after deciding a potential 337 fiver too heavy in "payload" for our F250.

Quick update, my new Roamer RF374BH arrived at my dealer and hitch pin weight is 1930 lbs. The advertised hitch weight is 2520 lbs. I should be picking it up next week. Looking forward to posting about towing it with the truck I have.

That's a huge difference. Was that with propane and batteries? I should have weighed mine on my last trip but I just wanted to get camping. I figured mine was over the 2500lb mark bc of the second AC.

I'm expecting mine to weigh about 14.5k and have a 3k pin weight but if the pin is really that much lighter that would be nice.

Where did the 1930 figure come from was it weighed? I did not know the delivery pin weight was officially stated? Was it obtained by weighing the rig? Did the dealer or buyer weigh the rig to determine the pin?

Yeah, I don't believe that 1930 number. Your pin weight will be about 20% of the overall trailer weight. My 367 weighs quite a bit less than the 374, and my pin weight is over 2700 pounds. My pin weight also happens to be right at 20% of the trailer weight.

I am currently looking for a lightweight fifth wheel. Let me know if the following makes sense.

As an Engineer I need to be legit, as I should know better. Exceeding legal limits and voids your insurance. Could be dangerous as well.

What does towing ability and load mean. In English. The terms half ton, ¾ ton are sort of meaningless. In a ¾ ton models/options can reduce payload by #1000 or more.

Until recently there were no standards. Truck companies tested their trucks their way. As bumpers, beds, spare tires, fifth wheel hitches, people, coolers, kids, dogs, were not included in the tests. Or fuel. Now there is a standard for towing. SAE J2807.

Ram follows it. So what they list in the book is likely good. Everyone else, who knows for sure. I never checked others. I would just not push my luck with a 150. Our limit is over #17,000. It appears the pulling a fifth wheel with a 150 is untrue.

Payload is another thing. The only way to get yours is to load the truck up for camping with everything including the hitch and weigh it. Passengers and a full load of fuel. Any Pilot truck stop will weigh your truck for $13. Subtract that from the number on the sticker for maximum weight. I was shocked at the weight of my Ram without a hitch. over #8100. Laramie quad cab 2500 diesel. I and my wife and fuel.

Thus your fifth wheel, or trailer hitch weight must be less than that. Neither axle should exceed its rating. No problem on the axle.

I would be concerned about legality of a #2000 hitch weight pulled by a crew cab diesel.

I wish to purchase the open road 319 but, am concerned about the low height and crap small tires. The factory told me no option was available from them to raise the unit. I am assuming I must throw the wheels and tires away, void the warranty and have the frame raised(2-3") and taller tires(1").

Or buy a trailer that is higher and has better tires, automatic leveling but pushes the hitch weight 2-300# high? Opinions?

My dealer weighted the trailer when it arrived. We wanted to make sure weight did not exceed my payload rating. I'll have to check on battery and propane, I'm sure it's with no propane. Add 111lbs for full propane bottles.. still not bad!

I'll be at the dealer next week to pick up the trailer. My first stop will be a CAT scale and I'll post results asap. I'm sure the 1930lbs is an empty weight and it's possible the entire trailer is less than the 12,000+ lbs advertised figure. Add battery, propane, my stuff, truck, gas and myself, then we'll see what the scale says.

I am skeptical of the 1930 figure. I agree the only way to know for sure is to verify at the CAT scale
Square Feet 425
UVW 12,300
Hitch Weight 2,520
GVWR 16,470
Cargo (Gross) 4,170
Exterior Length (Overall) 39' 8"
Exterior Height 155"
Exterior Width 100"

Yup, will weight it next week. I'm not sure why people are posting here questioning the hitch weight of my unit. It is that 1930 lbs number, empty. Weighted by the dealer, LazyDays in Tampa, FL. I'll take a pic of the Cat scale receipt and post it. ;)

I'm skeptical simply because it is 600#'s less than the factory figure. Very seldom is the pin weight less than the factory figure. Usually the actual weight is a few hundred pounds more than the factory figure.

Okay, the camper is hooked up to my truck and under load. Suspension is level (measured front and back wheel wells). trailer is level as well. Now I need to close it up and get onto the highway. ;-)
