I have a 2015 Dodge 2500 4/door 4X4 6.7 Diesel. has anyone installed a extra tank behind the rear window in the bed of the truck? I was hoping to find a fuel tank that has a storage compartment on top of it.
I have a bed cover on top, the B&W 5th wheel hitch has 1" clearance and fits nicely under the bed top cover. I was looking for a fuel tank and storage that would fit under the top cover too.
Has anyone done this and if so what did you buy and what does it cost?

For my Ford I bought one from RDS it fits below the top of the bed rails and has a small toolbox/ storage on top and was easy to install. Mine gravity feeds directly into the filler neck on the factory tank with the adaptor kit, I really enjoy going all day without filling up. They make different sizes and you will have to measure the clearance between the hitch/ slider and space by the rear window.

I replaced the 36gallon OEM tank with a transfer flow 60 gallon tank, no bed space consumption
cost was $2,200 installed

It seems to me if I have to stop every couple hours to eat or use the rest room, I might as well fill up on gas at the same time. So far I plotted out my trip with where the truck stops are when I get to about 1/2 to 1/4 of a tank.
Stop refill up, eat and use rest room. Makes my wife happy, she doesn't like being stuck as passenger for longer than a few hours at a time.
If I was by myself, I would load up on subway sandwiches and drive 16 hours straight and pee in a bottle : )

I had a 50 gallon Transerflow installed in my 2500 Chevrolet diesel and it works great. I do not have a top cover but one would go over the tank with out any problems. You can go to www.transferflow.com and view options for your truck. I purchased a used 2013 Ram 3500 4x4 and I am planning to put one in it.

We do stop to eat or use rest room. But still want that tank back there. Driving thru the SW parts of this great country (AZ/NM/UT/CO etc), wide open spaces with great distances to mob about. Lucky we can pull over to use RV for rest room breaks and/or eat. But with few stations in between, nice to have that extra fuel reserve. Besides we pack lunch/drinks on our trips, have in tow vehicle for those times we need not stop. Typically we have gone for 2+ hr driving legs, and take advantage of rest stops, if any enroute.

We've driven 11 hrs without refueling.

yes, I hate stopping for gas when it's not the right time or no good gas stations near by. I almost ran out of gas in western Texas, there were no gas stations for a 100 miles.

I have 2012 RAM 2500 2WD/LB/CC and I installed a RDS combo fuel/tool box with gravity feed. The fuel capacity is 50 gallons, and it has a big toolbox. The limiting factor is the length of your truck bed, and how much room you will have between your fifth wheel and the fuel box. It fits about 1" below the top of the bed.... I've had mine about two years, and had no issues with it at all.
I model number that I bought is #72746 and the price was around $700. The only suggestion I would make is don't buy the bright shiny diamond finish model, as it looks good, but is blinding when the sun reflects off it!! :D :D :D

One other thing about the Transfer Flow tank is that it is totally automatic, all you do is put in fuel. It has a controller you put on the dash and it tells you how much fuel you have in the main tank and aux tank. It also is constant checking itself. Costs more but being retired I like simple :Ban .Dave

ATTA tanks in Fort Worth Texas will have what you want. They have a fuel/toolbox that is made for truck that want a cover as well. I have one of their tanks and have been happy with it.

I have a RDS gravity fed 60 gallon tank! Best thing I've ever added to the truck! They make a combo too! I'd also consider ATTA tanks too!
