I carry a regular unleaded gas can (RED) for my Honda generator, but I don't have a diesel can for my truck. Don't they make a diesel can in Yellow or green to define diesel?
I rather not use a magic marker to label 2 different fuels.

Most hardware stores and automotive stores carry them as well as TSC and Northern Tool.

These are what I use. I have eight and strap them in front of truck bed. There's an optional pouring spout that works great and fits right in tank port. A bit pricey but indestructible. deutscheoptik.com is where I bought them 4 years ago. I think they still carry them. They can slide around in the truck bed with no damage. Built by same company that made them for military.

Amazon has them in the standard yellow: http://www.amazon.com/Midwest-Can-8600- ... diesel+can
Tractor Supply also has them in stock if you have a store locally: http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/produc ... _vc=-10005

yellow for diesel or kerosene. I usually just make sure and give it a sniff test before I use it.

I will go to the Tractor Supply Store, it's right next door to my 2nd hone "Harbor Freight" : )
The green Jerry Can won't stand upright in my truck. I like the low profile yellow can. You can drive over rail road track at 90mph and not spill a drop : )

Plus they are much less money. I have several of the yellows at home also for the tractor and back up fuel. I also have a 100 gallon rectangular diesel tank behind the barn with 12V pump. At any given time I have about 175 gallons of diesel on hand and 80 of gasoline. The gas has to be cycled through more than the diesel but it's nice having a stockpile. I cycle through the diesel every 18 months. Gas...every 6 months.

I have been eyeing this can, but I am not sure how to mount it in my truck:

I really want the can to be locked into place. I will likely go with a yellow jerrycan because there are lots of mounting options for jerrycans:

All my miscellaneous stuff in the bed slide from one side to the other. Another fuel can will tighten the load : )

I was reading through the questions on this and it said not to store diesel in galvanized cans over a year because the galvanized might contaminate the diesel and ruin your engine.

The green ones I have are coated inside with a dark red coating for that reason. I've stored fuel over 18 months in them with no issues. Reviews of the other Jerry Can by Briggs and Stratton are not good..mostly because of the plastic parts, lack of compatible spouts and how it pours. Northern Tool and TSC has the yellow plastic jugs cheaper than Amazon...around $17-18 and you carry it out vs. shipping.

Thanks. I was not aware of that. I do not plan to store fuel in it for long, but this makes me nervous regardless. It seems the manufacturer would coat the inside of this can for that price.

So I guess I am looking for a jerrycan with a coated inside. Ideally, the can would be yellow, but I might consider the green ones that were posted above. I guess I could always spray paint the exterior if I really wanted.

Vents, vents, vents.

Be cautious about saving money on tanks that don't have vents to let air in while dumping.
You will certainly regret it next time you are trying to pour that fuel in your rig in a an uncomfortable
or unsafe place. Unvented fuel cans take 4-5 times longer to empty than vented ones.

Now if you have a transfer pump, then nevermind. ;-)

The green ones have a displacement vent built into the pouring spout...they are military grade, battle field tested. The yellow plastic ones have the vent built into the spout as well. There are advantages to both and most all fuel jugs today are vented somehow. Transfer pumps are great too...you can drink beer with one hand and transfer fuel with the other. Then you can leave the rest area with both tanks full.

I have a blue fuel jug for my diesel/stove oil....it is labeled Kerosene but I don't have anything that uses Kerosene so no danger in using it by mistake.

I went to the Tractor Supply Store and they only had Yellow 5gal jugs for $33. I wanted a 2 1/2gal jug. Search is still on.
